Programmable Thermostat Features

Here are some of the features that you can get in new thermostat. Not only will a new thermostat help you control your air conditioning system better, but there are many with features that can help you save energy. Each home is different, so its important to find the model with the features that best match your needs.

  • Digital thermostats offer the most features with multiple settings, options to override, and even automatically adjust for daylight savings changes.
  • Electromechanical systems use pegs or sliding bars to set temperatures and are fairly simple to program.
  • Digital back-lit displays
  • Touch screen pads for easy programming and viewing of information
  • Voice or phone programming
  • System on hold or vacation settings
  • Indicators that tell you when air filters need to be changed
  • Self-diagnostic systems that signal when there is a problem with the heating or air conditioning system
  • Automatic setback features allow you to set up a variety of schedules.  These setting can also be manually overridden for special needs without affecting the rest of the day’s programming.  There are a few models to choose from:
    • 7 day models let you set different temperatures for up to six times per day for each day of the week.
    • 5 + 2 models give you the flexibility of setting one program for Monday through Friday and another for Saturday and Sunday.
    • 5 + 1 + 1 models offer the option of one program for Monday through Friday, a separate schedule for Saturday, and a final schedule for Sunday.
